WAXFLIGHT

Flowers can brighten a room or signal grief. They can grow unattended or under a watchful eye. They signify love, loss, and celebration.

Waxflight’s new album FLOWERS is an offering that gives the listener all of this. The lead single “Fall into Life” is a ringing bell to let us all know we are doing the best we can in this time of shelter in place, 6 feet apart, social-distance and uncertainty. These songs grew out of darkness and light and were cultivated across wires and screens rather than studios and rooms. But it is real, nonetheless.

Waxflight is Craig Ceravolo (Holiday Gunfire) as writer and singer, and various instruments, with Les Nuby (Les Nuby, Holiday Gunfire) digging in the dirt and collecting the blooms and providing arrangements. A cast of characters includes Jonathan Hyatt (the Black Pill), Daniel Farris (the Black Pill) & Joey Rudisell (Esker) to provide rhythm and flourishes.

Call it 80s-influenced…call it 70s-influenced. The Cure is in there. Steely Dan is in there. Joy Division/New Order is in there. Al Stewart and Christopher Cross are definitely in there.

Call it what you want, but know it was made with the hope it gives some joy, maybe some comfort and reminds us that flowers will wilt and fade, but they always eventually return.
